Intel Core i5-7400 – Excellent integrated graphics

Intel Core i5-7400
Intel Core i5-7400

Product Name: Intel Core i5-7400

Product Description: Many people mistakenly consider the Core i5-7400 a weak processor, complaining about its low nominal frequency – only 3 GHz. The next chip in the model range i5-7500 operates at a frequency of 3.4 GHz, which is significantly higher (plus 400 MHz). But it is more correct to compare not the nominal frequency of processors, but the frequency of Turbo Boost for all four cores. At 7400 it is equal to 3.4 GHz, and at 7500 – 3.6 GHz. The advantage of 200 MHz is clearly not worth the overpayment and the best choice for your money is core i5-7400.

Factors to consider when buying a processor

Choosing a processor is certainly not easy, especially if you are not an expert in the field. So if you’ve come to this point in our comparison of the best PC processors, and you don’t know which one to choose yet, here are some tips and opinions to keep in mind.

Core performance

The performance of a processor’s core is one of the main qualities to determine its goodness. In a nutshell, each processor is divided into sub-units, the so-called cores, which deal with all the operations of a computer.

In 2018 processors with 6 cores are spreading more and more, capable of achieving exceptional computing performance. However, to keep spending down if you need it, we recommend at least a good quad core.

Clock speed

The speed, or rather clock frequency, represents in simple terms the number of operations per second that the processor is able to perform, measured in Hz. The better this parameter will be, the faster it will be in performing operations.

Today’s processors can even reach speeds up to 4 GHz and little more; our advice to assemble a powerful computer is to not go below 3 GHz. On average you should be oriented towards models that guarantee you between 3.4-3.8 GHz

Turbo

The speed of Intel and AMD processors is defined by the manufacturer. However, there are versions with Turbo Boost, a function that allows you to increase the clock slightly. In this way, you can speed it up temporarily for expensive operations. The Turbo Boost feature, in fact, guarantees the highest bands to exceed even 4 GHz, up to 4.5-4.6 GHz.

Integrated graphics

Given the costs of today’s graphics cards, many of you might opt for a processor with an excellent integrated graphics card. Although they are certainly not able to achieve exceptional graphic details, on the right PC they can allow you to enjoy some games sufficiently.

In particular, if your budget is tight. In some models you can take advantage of the Intel HD Graphics 630, so that your PC can be supported up to 4K resolution, ideal for medium-high quality gaming and virtual reality.

Energy consumption

One factor to keep an eye on is definitely energy consumption. This is because you will certainly not want to spend too much on the bill, but also to allow the PC to function correctly. The power supply must in fact be able to power all the components, and the processor is usually the one that consumes the most.

Also, you should also pay attention to products that overheat too much, because this is equivalent to energy dissipated in heat, which means further waste. The best processors for PCs are those that, even in conditions of high stress, keep consumption levels below 150 W. It can even be found on the market in devices with a maximum consumption of 60-100 W.

Overclocking

The “K” versions of Intel processors, but also many AMD models, are overclocked as standard, or allow you to do it yourself, both from software and hardware. Overclocking is used to significantly increase the processor clock to play more smoothly or perform heavy graphic work without slowing down.

To play at maximum performance

We are confident that our buying guide has helped you understand which is the best processor for 2019 for you and your PC. Whether for gaming or work, it is important to have a computer as fast as possible for your needs. So choose the most suitable model and have fun!
