The Ministry of Defense called the Vostok-2022 exercises purely defensive

Exercises “Vostok-2022” are defensive in nature and not directed against specific countries and military alliances, was announced by Deputy defense Minister Alexander Fomin during a briefing for foreign military attaches.

“The priority in the development of design theory were phased study options troops (forces) in the interests of ensuring the military security of the Russian Federation and its allies in the area of responsibility of the Eastern military district. Teaching is not directed against any specific States or military alliances and is of a purely defensive nature,” said Fomin.

Exercise “East” will be held from 1 to 7 September, under the leadership of chief of the General staff of the armed forces on the territory of the Eastern military district will be the final stage of preparation of the armed forces this year. The coalition of the forces on the joint actions in the framework of the strategic exercises will work the operational group of controls, troops and observers of the CSTO, the SCO and other partner countries, including Azerbaijan, Algeria, Armenia, Belarus, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Laos, Mongolia, Nicaragua, Syria, Tajikistan.

From the armed forces in the “East” will be attended by military authorities and the troops of the Eastern military district, part of the airborne forces, long-range and Military transport aviation. The exercise will involve more than 50,000 troops, more than 5000 pieces of weapons and military equipment, including 140 aircraft, and 60 combat ships, boats and support vessels.
