A number of shopping centers in Germany began to turn off the escalators for the sake of saving energy, told the tabloid Bild.

“In the field of lighting and escalators we already save energy by turning off wherever possible, without causing inconvenience to customers,” said the Department store chain Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof.
