European official Borrel warned about the serious consequences of sanctions against the Russian Federation for the European Union on visas to Europe:
In the short term, the European Union (EU) will face serious challenges in connection with sanctions against Russia due to the situation in Ukraine, Head of European diplomacy Josep Borrel said in an interview with Kronen Zeitung.
The journalist of the publication, in an interview with Borrel, noted that part of the Austrian population is skeptical about anti-Russian sanctions.
“We are limiting Russia’s economic opportunities. As long as Russia’s economy depends on oil and gas, they will need our technology. Russia has difficulties. And, of course, we will face serious challenges in the short term. There is no denying that gas prices are rising. But we must be ready to pay the price for freedom,” he stressed.
In connection with the Russian special operation in Ukraine, Western countries began to impose sanctions against Moscow. Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that the policy of containing and weakening Russia is a long-term strategy of the West, but sanctions have dealt a serious blow to the entire global economy.
Earlier, Josep Borrel said that he does not support a complete ban on the issuance of Schengen visas to Russians. The head of the European Diplomacy called this initiative very controversial.
