China responds to rumors about preparations for an invasion of Taiwan

The Chinese Foreign Ministry did not confirm China’s preparations for a military invasion of Taiwan, Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan:

China is conducting exercises in the Taiwan area as a “lesson to the separatists” and a warning to the United States. This was stated by a representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry at a briefing in response to rumors about the preparation of a full-scale invasion, TASS reports.

The request to confirm the upcoming military operation of the Chinese armed forces was made by a journalist from one of the Western publications. The official representative of Beijing stressed that holding exercises in the Taiwan area after the “fussy visit” of the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the US Congress Nancy Pelosi is absolutely legal and justified.

“This is a warning for provocateurs and an edifying lesson to Taiwanese separatists,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry said.

Earlier on August 9, Beijing announced that it was launching new military exercises around Taiwan with the participation of the Navy and the Air Force of the People’s Liberation Army of China. A day earlier, the Armed Forces of Taiwan announced military exercises with live firing of heavy artillery.

The situation around Taiwan became more complicated after Pelosi’s visit to the island on August 2. Until the last moment, the United States did not confirm information about whether the Speaker of the US House of Representatives will visit Taipei during his Asian tour. Beijing considered the trip a violation of the One-China Principle and an attempt on the country’s state sovereignty.
