Conditions of the beginning of the Third World War are named

The political scientist Kalachev called the use of nuclear weapons a condition for the beginning of the Third World War, the Third World war can begin in the case of the use of nuclear weapons, as well as when creating crooked coalitions, political scientist Konstantin Kalachev believes.

In conversation with the “Tape. He also added that the escalation of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine into a major international conflict is unlikely.

“First of all, the world war implies the creation of large coalitions,” Kalachev said. — If we recall the Second World War, we will see that the campaign included states on different continents, the whole of Europe was at war. But in this case, it seems to me, the key role will be played not even by the number of participants in the conflict, but by the use of nuclear weapons.”

He noted that in many respects everything depends on the definition of the “Third World War”: for the layman it may be a conflict between China and the United States or Russia and Ukraine, although, in fact, this is not the case at all.

“The Russian-Ukrainian conflict, in turn, can develop into a Third World war only if new participants would appear on one side or the other openly, and not in the form of arms supplies. But this is clearly not expected, so the talk about the Third World War, most likely, is nothing more than a horror story,” the political scientist believes.

The situation in the world, as Kalachev noted, is indeed escalating. But it depends on what to compare: if with the times of perestroika, the great hopes of the 90s, then everything is obviously getting worse. At the same time, the situation in the world is no more difficult than in the 60s or 70s.

“All such processes are cyclical in nature. Now we are witnessing an escalation, but last time it ended with a detente of international tension, although it is clear that at the moment we are up to detente, like the Moon,” Kalachev concluded.

Earlier, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that the world is facing a nuclear danger unprecedented since the Cold War and is one miscalculation away from a nuclear catastrophe.

Earlier, former US President Donald Trump said that he believes a Third World War is possible, after the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine, an escalation around Taiwan may follow.
