The Pope urged to prevent a nuclear disaster at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant

Pope Francis issued an address during which he called for an end to hostilities in Ukraine and, in particular, at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant to prevent a nuclear catastrophe.

His words are quoted by Reuters.

According to Russia’s permanent representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzia, the situation with nuclear safety at the NPP has deteriorated in recent weeks. He claims that the APU continues to shell the territory of the station, creating the risk of a radiation accident “with catastrophic consequences for the entire European continent.”

The Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN, Sergey Kislitsa, in turn, insisted on the deployment of IAEA inspectors on the territory of the station. The agency itself is still continuing negotiations with all parties, depending on their outcome, a decision will be made to send its representatives to the station.
