In Zaporozhye, they compared a possible accident at the nuclear power plant with Chernobyl

Yevgeny Balitsky compared the possible accident at the Zaporozhye NPP with Chernobyl and Fukushima, the head of the administration of the Zaporozhye region Yevgeny Balitsky compared the consequences of a possible accident at the Zaporozhye NPP with the tragedies in Chernobyl and Fukushima.

His words are transmitted by RIA Novosti.

According to Balitsky, in case of radiation emissions, the consequences will be catastrophic not only for the Zaporozhye region. “This will be a situation equivalent to those at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and Fukushima,” he explained. The head of Zaporozhye recalled that the Chernobyl accident affected dozens of countries, and the NPP is the largest station in Europe.

So, if backup diesel generators and mobile pumps fail, the core will overheat, Balitsky said. Because of this, the reactor plant will collapse and radioactive substances will be released into the atmosphere. In addition, the Crimean Canal and the Black Sea may suffer from the release of radiation. “Thus, it will affect many countries,” he concluded.

Earlier, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that the actions taken by the Kiev authorities in relation to the Zaporozhye nuclear Power plant (NPP) can be considered an act of nuclear terrorism.
