Russia’s requirements for the final report of the NPT Conference are revealed

Zlauvinen: Russia at the NPT Conference demanded amendments to the Zaporozhye AESRussia demanded amendments to the paragraphs of the final document of the Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), which related to the Zaporozhye NPP and the Budapest Memorandum.

Moscow’s demands were disclosed at a briefing by the chairman of the conference Gustavo Zlauvinen, RIA Novosti reports.

According to him, the Russian delegation stated that it would not agree with the text of the document if “very important changes concerning the situation at Ukraine’s nuclear facilities under Russian control” were not made to it.

“I tried to see if other delegations would accept it. This did not happen,” Zlauvinen added.

Earlier, Zlauvinen said that the participants of the NPT Review Conference did not agree on the final document because they could not reach a consensus on the substantive part.

Deputy Head of the Russian delegation Andrey Belousov pointed out that the draft final document of the conference does not reflect the problem of the collapse of the Treaty on the Elimination of Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missiles (INF). He also accused Ukraine and its curators of the lack of a final positive consensus on the results of the review conference.
