The United States named the culprit in the absence of the final document of the NPT conference

U.S. Representative Sheinman called the final document of the NPT conference imperfect, which holds Russia responsible for the absence of the final document of the Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).

This statement was made by the special representative of the American president for nuclear nonproliferation Adam Sheinman, he is quoted by TASS.

He admitted that the final version of the document “was not perfect”, but at the same time expressed regret that it was not possible to adopt it. At the same time, he blamed Russia for this.

“The changes that Russia proposed in the last minutes were not insignificant at all,” he said, stating that “Russia’s actions have led to the current situation.” Sheiman noted that other delegations allegedly even met Russia halfway, excluding its mention and condemnation of its actions from the paragraphs where the situation around the Zaporozhye NPP was discussed.

At the same time, the American diplomat noted that “the past month has shown that although we still have a lot of work to do, we agree more often than we disagree.”

“We are ready to focus on what unites us, not separates us. I assure you that the United States will continue to work with all states parties to the treaty during the next review cycle,” he said, adding that Washington is ready to fulfill its obligations under article 6 of the NPT, which deals with nuclear disarmament.

In turn, the Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN office and other international organizations in Geneva, Andrei Belousov, blamed Ukraine and its curators for the lack of a final positive consensus on the results of the NPT Review Conference.
