The Pentagon commented on reports about the name of the US mission in Ukraine

The representative of the Pentagon did not confirm the data on the assignment of the name of the mission to help Ukrainespecial military operation in Ukraine:

The US Department of Defense has not confirmed reports that the White House plans to name a mission to help Ukraine. This was stated by Pentagon Press Secretary Patrick Ryder.

Answering the corresponding question of the journalist, the representative of the defense department said that he did not have such information. “I can’t confirm it. I am not aware of any plans to organize a named operation in support of security assistance to Ukraine,” Ryder said.

At the same time, the Pentagon press secretary noted that the assignment of the name of the mission entails targeted funding.

Earlier, The Wall Street Journal newspaper, citing sources, reported on the plans of the White House to give the name of the mission to assist Ukraine by analogy with the name of military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. The publication pointed out that the name has bureaucratic importance, since it means long-term targeted funding and implies additional payments for the troops involved, ribbons of distinction and awards for them.
