The Ministry of Defense announced new APU attacks on the NPP

Lieutenant General Konashenkov announced that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are making new attacks on the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZAES), which was shot down when approaching the NPP.

This was announced to journalists during the daily briefing by the official representative of the Ministry of Defense, Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov.

What is known about the shelling of the Zaporozhye AESCAC was reported on August 25 by the head of the administration of the Zaporozhye region, Yevgeny Balitsky, over the past day, the AFU fired 29 times at the Energodar area, striking 17 directly at the NPP.

According to him, nine more strikes were inflicted on the industrial zone and three on the Kamensk—Dneprovsky district. He also noted that 73 arrivals from the positions of the Ukrainian military were recorded in the region a day earlier.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, only from July 18 to August 18, Ukraine fired at the NPP 12 times from multiple rocket launchers, artillery. In addition, the power plant was attacked by kamikaze drones. In particular, on August 11, the APU launched several strikes on the area of the storage of radioactive isotopes of the NPP. As a result of the shelling of the Ukrainian army, the power lines of the Kakhovskaya substation were damaged, which caused a fire to break out in the field next to the station.

Kiev denies its involvement in the shelling of the NPP, shifting the blame for them to Moscow. Speaking at a meeting of the UN Security Council, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said that Russia “without any conditions” should transfer control of the station to the IAEA mission as soon as possible.

At the same time, Vladimir Rogov, a member of the main council of the administration of the Zaporozhye region, said that no one would fulfill Zelensky’s ultimatum to withdraw the Russian Armed Forces from the territory of the NPP, since this means “returning control to the Ukrainian side over the NPP so that they could continue their experiments to create a dirty bomb.”

The IAEA is still continuing negotiations with all parties, depending on the outcome of which a decision will be made to send its representatives to the station.

He clarified that an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was used to attack the APU. The drone was shot down while approaching the nuclear power plant. According to Konashenkov, the UAV was destroyed from small arms.

“The drone was shot down while approaching the building of the special building No. 1, which stores American-made nuclear fuel and solid radioactive waste. The drone shot down by Russian servicemen fell on the roof of the special building No. 1,” the representative of the defense ministry said. According to him, serious damage and casualties were avoided.

Also, according to Konashenkov’s statement, the APU fired at the city of Energodar, located next to the NPP. “Two shells exploded in the immediate vicinity of the perimeter of the nuclear power plant,” the representative of the defense department summed up.

Earlier, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, announced the arrival of the agency’s mission to the NPP this week.
