The draft law on negotiable fines for business for the leak of personal data of customers is in development, it will be submitted by mid-September, reported RIA Novosti in the press service of Minsitry.

“The law on negotiable penalties for leakage of personal data is under development and will be presented in mid-September,” – said in the Ministry. The Agency said that the Ministry looking for a “compromise with business and industry.”

“Minsitry stands for toughening and strengthening of responsibility for the leak of personal data. But the task is not in the fines, with additional responsibilities in the form of turnover fines encourage businesses to invest in infrastructure, information security and protection of personal data of users,” the Ministry added.

In April, the head of Minsitry Maksut Shadaev at the meeting of the state Duma proposed to impose the fines for companies prevent leakage of personal data of customers. Soon after, in may, the Ministry has agreed on a bill providing for the imposition of a fine in the amount of 1% of annual revenue increase to 3% if the company promptly (within 24 hours) not reported about the leak of Roskomnadzor. Now, according to the administrative code, the maximum fine for business for such leaks is 500 thousand rubles.

Later in Minsitry said that preparing an updated version of the bill, according to which the first violation will be assigned a penalty proportionate to the amount of the leaked data, but when re – working. It was specified that the proceeds can be paid to the victims.
