Luanda to join the payment system “Mir”, and allow the use of these cards in their own country, the authorities also admit the possibility of settlements in national currencies, everything will depend on the volume of Russian trade and investment, said in an interview with RIA Novosti the representative of Angola in Russia Augusto da Silva Cunha.
Today, the card “the World” are accepted in Turkey, Vietnam, Armenia, South Korea, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
“Technically, the use of “World” in Angola possible… I believe that Angola can join this system, but subject to feasibility. This will strongly depend on our financial and economic relations and the level of investment in the country… the Angolan government is open fully for Russian investors, and if their contribution is significant, then, of course, would be reasonable and logical to join the system and take it,” he said.
In addition, he said, the Angolan authorities permit the use of national currencies in mutual settlements.
“We believe that the transactions between the two countries, in principle, be undertaken in national currencies. The ruble in some countries is already the settlement currency”, – said the diplomat. However, he added, as if to say “specifically about payments between Russia and Angola, we believe that Russia will be difficult to accept Angolan Kwanza”. The reason is that while “the share of Russian imports in Angola is not high: only 1.2%, and the bulk of investments concentrated in diamond and banking sectors.””It all depends on the degree of coterminosity these currencies. Such transactions should be considered not only in the context of bilateral relations, in the case of Angola and Russia, but also in the context of global international relations”, – said the Ambassador.
In August, the press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that the U.S. dollar ceased to be a reliable reserve currency, a concern shared by many countries. Prior to this, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak after the meeting of presidents of Russia and Turkey Vladimir Putin and Tayyip Erdogan told reporters that the two leaders agreed to start partial payment in rubles of the Russian gas supplies to Turkey. In August it was reported that China will continue to increase payments in national currencies in trade with Russia, it said Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Hongwei.
