The United States continues to seek ways to strengthen the energy security of European countries in terms of reducing the supply of natural gas from Russia, is to “additional work” in that direction, said on Friday White house spokesman Karine Jean-Pierre.
“We have already made progress on this issue since March natural gas supplies into Europe increased by 84% compared to 2021. The share of American supplies increased three times. In fact, the supply of gas to Europe from March rose by 20 billion cubic meters compared to the previous year, which already exceeds the promised President Biden volumes,” said Jean-Pierre at a regular briefing.
However, she said, Washington will have to do “extra work” in this area, and the United States will continue to look for ways to increase LNG supplies to Europe, in parallel, thus reducing the region’s dependence on Russian gas imports.
While Jean-Pierre did not agree with the prediction of a number of experts about what the approaching winter and shortage of gas in storage of the European countries could lead to a split in the unity of the Western countries.
“We are confident that this Alliance, this partnership will continue to exist. We also intend to provide our partners in Ukraine with the necessary means to continue the fight for its sovereignty,” added the representative of the American administration.
