Experts advised Russians to put passwords on applications with valuable personal data and listed ways how to do it. How to secure information on a smartphone is reported on the agency’s website.

Often users put passwords to unlock the smartphone and encrypt accounts, but it is possible to password-lock not the entire device, but only a specific application, experts noted. However, not all applications have this feature. In such cases, experts recommended using one of the following methods.

For Android devices, you can use third-party blocking apps as protection. According to experts, there are dozens of apps in the Play Store that can create a password for other apps. In order to use such an application, it is necessary to allow him access to the installed programs and select those that need to be password-protected.

Another way to protect data in applications is the use of smartphone shell functions. “Some manufacturers in their shells have the option “Application Lock”, with which you can put passwords on the necessary apps,” the experts noted. In their opinion, this is the most reliable way, since it does not involve the use of third-party software.

When transferring your smartphone to another user for a while, it is recommended to create an additional guest account to protect your data. “The guest will be able to install applications under his “account”, but will not be able to view your SMS or access calls. (…) If you choose a guest, a guest session will start, and the guest will use a smartphone with their settings,” the experts said.

Earlier, information security analyst of the Digital Economy League Artur Yanbulatov called ways to distinguish real banking applications from fake ones. The specialist explained that it is necessary to download the mobile bank only from official websites using the https protocol, and advised to avoid switching to portals using links from e-mail.
