“People don’t go to the stadium — that’s the main problem. The task of the league and mine personally is to return the fans,” the functionary said. He clarified that it was necessary to understand the causes of the problem, and cited the example of the stadium in Rostov-on-Don, where the attendance of matches fell seven times.

Alaev stressed that it is important to build communication with fans. “We see a boycott, but no one talks to the fans. We need to work. I’m not talking about repealing the law, but something needs to be changed,” the RPL president said.

The State Duma adopted the Fan ID law in December 2021. Now every fan must have a personalized spectator card to get to the stands. At the moment, it operates at five stadiums: Fisht (Sochi), Rostov Arena (Rostov-on-Don), Yekaterinburg Arena, Solidarity Samara Arena and Nizhny Novgorod. Later, the system will be extended to other arenas. In response, active fans of RPL clubs, except for Akhmat, announced a boycott of league matches.
